Without any doubt, the most prestigious is the Royal Nautical Club of Castellón de la Plana, with 260 berths.

Not without reason it hosts important nautical competitions, such as Costa Azahar Yacht Race, which counts towards the Spanish Championship. The club also has a light sailing school.

The last marina is Burriana’s Nautical Club, with 260 berths.

Among its good facilities there is a coffee shop, a social club, a swimming pool and a restaurant. Attention should be paid to its Sea School.

Future vision

The towns of Castellón, Benicàssim, Burriana, Oropesa del Mar, Cabanes, Torreblanca and Alcalà de Xivert-Alcossebre are working together towards an ambitious project: the Columbretes Nautical Station, with its operation centre located in Alcalà de Xivert-Alcossebre.

The Nautical Station is designed as a ski resort. It does not have just one headquarters, but is comprised of

nautical infrastructures, accommodation and shops which form a single physical environment: the Costa Azahar. All year round, it will offer lovers of water sports and general visitors a comprehensive choice of perfectly planned activities and services.

On the Costa Azahar there are several main scuba diving areas. One of them is the Columbretes islands marine reserve, with an area between Mascarat and Mancolibre, inside the Grossa Island and another area behind Grossa Island and the islands of Ferrera and Foradà.

The bottom of the sea’s complex topography is a natural refuge for species such as groupers, giltheads and, most importantly, lobsters.

The fauna of the bottom of the sea is especially rich here and includes some unique species, such as the red coral snake (Collarium rubrum) and the algae Laminaria rodriguezi.

In Oropesa del Mar, there are four main diving areas: Infierno, in front of the light house; the Renegà cliffs, to

the right of the Nautical Club; Cofre, at the exit of the Nautical Club (0-8 m deep); and the eastern part of the Nautical Club (10-40 m deep).

Barra Alta is located between Castellón and the Columbretes islands. It is an open sea area, which is dangerous due to the streams and fishermen’s nets. It forms an underwater mountain rising from 90 m to 11 at the highest peak. The best dives are in the 20-30 m region.

Bordering Torreblanca is Torre La Sal area, continuing from Morro de Gos beach at Oropesa del Mar.
