Castellón has managed to make the most of the Mediterranean: fine sand beaches and coves, perfect for swimming, natural areas deserving the best care and protection, fishing banks which give the main ingredients for the traditional cooking, links to other places in the Mediterranean, etc. It is also the setting of a great variety of water sports and leisure activities.

All along the Costa Azahar, you can sail, windsurf, water ski, fish, row, paddle, scuba dive, etc. All the time more and more marinas and sport clubs are hosting yacht races and top level competitions as a reward for their quality. Sailing schools and trainers care for, teach and oversee the safety of visitors and promote a sport which has all its hopes resting on a project which will finally make the Costa Azahar a first-class nautical destination: the Columbretes Nautical Station.

A journey through the sports facilities
There are eight nautical clubs and marinas along the Costa Azahar. From north to south, the first is Vinaròs Nautical Club, with 150 berths. Among other services, it has a bar/restaurant. Also, motor boats can be rented by groups or scuba diving clubs. There are also a schooner and a wind catamaran. Diving and trips on these can be arranged at the Columbretes Islands’ marine reserves. Finally, there are jet skis for use on the delta of the river Ebro.

The next is the Benicarló Marina, with 60 berths. The facilities include a sports marina and leisure area with restaurant, minigolf and pubs. There is a light sail school and a cruise catamaran that goes to the Columbretes Islands, Ibiza and Formentera. A visit to the fish market and fresh fish auctions is recommended.

Peñíscola is one of the most beautiful places on the Mediterranean. Its port has 72 berths. Unlike the previous ports, the Alcalà de Xivert-Alcossebre “Las Fuentes” Marina has 350 berths, exhibits a leisure image and includes a well kept interior estate. There are restaurants at the marina and within the estate.

Oropesa del Mar Marina has 668 berths. It is one of the biggest and most modern marinas and can host deep draft ships. The facilities include a nautical club, a social building, a restaurant and a sailing school.

Benicàssim Sailing Club offers courses and rental services for catamarans and windsurfing. It is temporarily located on the beach, unlike the Sea School of Benicàssim, where light sailing and windsurf are taught. It has its own hostel and is open to the public during the summer.
